Alien or not, many Americans didn’t realize that the US military was working their own flying saucer: the Avrocar. And just after Newton’s discoveries about gravity, 18th-century German physician Franz Anton Mesmer also proposed an invisible force that he called "animal magnetism.” To harness it, he built a device from a giant wooden tub saying it could cure any illness.
