Popis: Air traffic controllers hear an explosion when Air Algérie Flight 6289 lifts off from a remote desert airport. And moments later, the Boeing 737-200 crashes in the Sahara. An intense fire ravages the fuselage, instantly killing all but one of the 103 people on board. For an international team of investigators, it’s clear the left engine exploded after liftoff—and that a fatigue crack eventually explains why. What’s less obvious is why the highly-experienced crew of the state-owned national carrier was unable to keep their aircraft in the sky. Single-engine failures are infinitely survivable, and the pilots should have been able to recover by working together.
